Christmas Gifts for Lorry Drivers: 7 Ideas They'll Actually Keep in the Cab
Share
If you're buying for a lorry driver this Christmas, you've probably already worked out that the usual suspects don't land. He's got a flask. He's got a high-vis. He's got more "World's Best Trucker" mugs than cupboards to put them in. What works is something that reflects the truck he actually drives – and, ideally, something that fits in a cab.
We've sold more lorry lamps than any other design in our range, and most of them are bought by partners, kids and parents of drivers. Here's what we've learned about what goes down well, plus a few ideas that aren't ours.
1. A night light of his own truck
Our best-selling product, full stop. A Scania, Volvo, Renault or DAF cab laser-engraved into acrylic, lit from below in 16 colours, and personalised free with his name, his company or his number plate. It runs from a USB socket, so it works in the cab on nights out as well as on the bedside table at home. Around £20, made in Lincolnshire, and it arrives in a gift box ready to hand over.
If you know his reg, put it in the personalisation box – that's the detail that makes drivers stop and look twice. If he drives something we don't list, send us a photo and we'll quote for a custom one.
2. A decent 12V/24V kettle or coffee machine
Not ours, but it's the thing drivers mention most. A proper 24V kettle that boils in a sensible time changes night-out life. Check the voltage against his truck before you buy – most artics are 24V, most vans are 12V.
3. A personalised number plate lamp
For drivers who are fussier about their reg than their truck. We engrave the plate in the correct font on a plate-shaped acrylic panel, so it looks like the real thing lit up. Works for owner-drivers, classic truck restorers and anyone who's had the same private plate for twenty years.
4. A cab-friendly power bank
Again, not ours, but if you're buying a USB-powered gift it's the obvious pairing. A 20,000mAh bank runs one of our lamps for several nights and charges a phone on the side.
5. Something from the truck he learned in
A lot of drivers have a soft spot for the first cab they had – an old Scania 4-series, a Volvo FH, an ERF. We do several classic cabs and can engrave a year or a company name from back then. This is the one that gets the "how did you know?" reaction.
6. Better sleep kit
Blackout curtain clips for the cab, a decent pillow, a sleep mask. Unglamorous, appreciated. Pair it with a lamp set to a warm amber and you've solved the 4am-in-a-lay-by problem.
7. For the kids of a lorry driver
If you're buying for a child whose dad or mum drives, a lorry night light with the child's name and "Daddy's truck" underneath is something we get asked for constantly. It gives them a bit of the parent in the room on nights when they're away. We can fit both a name and a short line within 20 characters – "Alfie · Daddy's Scania" fits.
When to order
Personalised lamps are engraved to order and dispatched within 1–3 working days by Royal Mail tracked. Our last order date for Christmas delivery is 21 December, but if the gift is being posted on to someone else, give yourself a week's margin.
Questions people ask us
Does the lamp work in a lorry cab?
Yes. It runs from any USB socket (or 3 AA batteries), so a cab USB port, a 12V/24V USB adapter or a power bank all work. The base is 80mm across and the panel is 150mm, so it sits on a dash shelf or bunk ledge.
Can you put a company name or fleet number on it?
Yes – anything up to 20 characters. Haulage firms also order them in bulk for driver Christmas presents; get in touch through the contact page for quantity pricing.
Is it a Scania / Volvo / DAF official product?
No. They're our own designs made in our workshop in Coningsby, Lincolnshire, and aren't affiliated with the manufacturers.
What if he already has one?
Drivers with more than one truck, or who've changed jobs, often end up with a small collection. A different cab, or the same cab with a different name (the kids' names, the dog), is a safe bet.
